Nov 23, 2021 · Laurence Olivier's Heathcliff was profoundly moving to me, much more so than Clark Gable's Rhett Butler performance. Rhett Butler is the most iconic character and the most memorable performance, though. Jimmy Steward deserved the nom but not the award. Now I need to go watch Goodbye Mr. Chips.

He needed her for box office success more than she needed him for "respectability". Her production company was making the film and Olivier was a hired director, an employee. She was the executive producer in charge of this venture.
