Who's seen UNDERWATER? Cthulhu in 2020! : r/Lovecraft - Reddit
Dec 1, 2020 · The movie felt like a standard disaster flick with Cthulhu's inclusion being more of an Easter egg or nod to Lovecraft which worked great. It's cool to see movies casually drop in the mythos without warning or explanation because that seems to be inline with what Lovecraft wanted for the expanded mythos.

Jan 19, 2020 · The movie I felt was ok as a typical b movie where underwater miners dig up more than they bargained for (deep star six, the meg, and a few others). I typically enjoy these movies anyway. Despite the references this is clearly to me not at all a Lovecraftian film. I chuckled at the little Cthulhu drawing at the one station.

Underwater did t even give you chance to know who was any of the characters were before they started killing them. A similar movie which was a thousand times better was a The Abyss. Underwater (2020) and it’s big reveal : r/horror - Reddit
Jul 9, 2021 · The movie obviously never intended for it to be cthulhu. They threw it in last minute without considering the lore and stories of cthulhu. I mean the main character looks right at him and stays sane. There's no building on the reveal of cthulu and in the end it's just an underwater monster which is not what cthulhu is.

Apr 19, 2021 · Plot twist, after the big bad monster was defeated, motherfucking Cthulhu rises from the depths and is the real big bad. None of this was revealed in the trailers and was pretty unexpected. However, Cthulhu, or rather the Cthulhu inspired design (tentacles and all), was added after the fact and was never name dropped.

I personally think Underwater was a fantastic movie, with many hidden themes that you will only notice if you watch it more than once. People keep saying the performance was poor, the horror was poor and so was the writing. But for the 90 minutes of the movie they managed to pack in so many things into it, give characters small nuances and charm.

Underwater Movie : r/Lovecraft - Reddit
Jan 28, 2020 · The monster is missing all the psychological and otherworldly aspect that Cthulhu is supposed to have, and it looks more like modern fan art of Cthulhu than what the original description portrays. It, and his minions, which I suppose are now considered the Cthulhi, are too humanoid and too smooth in appearance.
[No Spoilers] Just watched the movie 'Underwater' and this
I thought that movie was actually not bad until the big guy showed up. Then I started hating it. As a concept being stuck at the bottom of the ocean with creatures that want to eat you really gave me a vibe similar to alien.
