The Targhee sheep breed is a relatively new breed of sheep that was developed by the United States Department of Agriculture their Agricultural Research Service. They are a medium to large dual-purpose breed that have a good temperament, good quality of meat and wool.

The Targhee sheep breed was created by the U.S Sheep Experiment Station in Dubois, Idaho in 1926 – making the Targhee one of the youngest breeds in the United States.
