Mustard procedure - Wikipedia
The Mustard Procedure allows total correction of transposition of the great vessels. It creates a baffle to redirect deoxygenated caval blood to the left atrium, which then pumps blood to the left ventricle, which in turn delivers this deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
Transposition of the Great Arteries after Mustard/Senning Repair
Babies born with TGA almost always need surgery to help the heart work more normally. Two of these surgeries are the Mustard and the Senning repair (also called Mustard or Senning procedures). The main other surgeries are the arterial switch and Rastelli procedure.
d-Transposition of the Great Arteries - American Heart Association
Patients who have had the Mustard or Senning operation may need catheterization techniques or surgery to correct abnormalities of the tunnel in the atria, repair abnormal valves or control rhythm disturbances.

Mustard Operation - Operative Techniques in Thoracic and …
The Mustard operation dramatically changed the outlook for babies born with TGA. Although it has been replaced by the arterial switch operation, the Mustard operation is a remarkable contribution to the development of cardiac surgery and …
Senning Operation - Operative Techniques in Thoracic and …
Redirection of blood using atrial flaps to correct patients with transposition of the great arteries (TGA) was described by Senning in 1959. 1 Later, Mustard's technique 2 became the operation of choice in most centers.
Long-Term Outcome of Mustard/Senning Correction for …
Jul 16, 2015 · The Mustard and Senning operation involves extensive surgery in the atria and leaves the right ventricle as the systemic ventricle. The Mustard and Senning cohort is now well into adulthood and we begin to see the long-term outcome.
Revival and modification of the Mustard operation - PubMed
The use of the Mustard operation, particularly the modified technique should play an important role in treating late-presenting patients with transposition of the great arteries. Improving the pattern of filling of the left ventricle could enhance the long-term results of the Mustard operation.
For infants with isolated TGA who first present after the neonatal period, the Mustard operation is an alternative to the two-stage arterial switch operation, ie, a preliminary pulmonary artery banding to prepare the left ventricle, followed after an interval by the arterial switch operation.
