Perched on the southernmost tip of Galle Fort, Flag Rock Bastion stands as a timeless sentinel, watching over the Indian Ocean. Originally built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and later fortified by the Dutch, this bastion was once a crucial defense point for the historic fort.

One of the more fascinating is the Zwart Bastion that is the only remnant of the original structure built by the Portuguese in the 16 th Century. The Flag Rock Bastion, located at the edge of the ramparts, was where the Dutch East India Company hoisted their colours.
