Official exchange rates don't always reflect reality. According to this article, many transactions are conducted in Yuan, Dollars, or even chocopies.

Jan 9, 2024 · initially, i misread the data and thought the south korean won was only a little MORE valuelable than the north's it took me a solid minute of staring at the exchange rate to realize it is worse than that, 1 north korean won equals 1.47 south korean won, despite the north having a GDP of only 18 billion, while the south has a gdp of over 1 TRILLION.
