Dozens of cats across the U.S. have tested positive for avian flu, federal officials say. The west coast has been hit especially hard.

The general public, however, can continue using bird feeders, Hofmann said. Delaware bird feeders typically attract cardinals, chickadees, titmice and other songbirds, while bird flu is usually found in waterfowl, raptors and vultures.

As more cases of bird flu are reported across species and locations, states across the country are taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
