Texas senators approved several bills Monday, one of which included another attempt at blocking hemp-derived THC products.

SAN ANTONIO – The state senate has already pushed another THC ban attempt past its first legislative hurdle, after Gov. Greg Abbott called a second special session Friday.

The agenda includes 18 legislative priorities determined by Gov. Greg Abbott, including addressing the Central Texas floods, regulating THC and redistricting.

Now that the Texas House has a quorum following Democrats’ two-week absence, lawmakers are back to debate a wide range of issues, including redrawing congressional maps to benefit Republicans.

The Texas Senate on Friday approved its second attempt to ban hemp-derived THC, setting up a showdown with the House, where hemp industry members say they’ll be getting more support.

The Texas House Committee of Public Health was the latest to hold a public hearing Wednesday about Senate Bill 5, the current special session’s newly drafted THC bill which is starkly similar to a previous bill Governor Greg Abbott vetoed June 22 and reignited debate among the hemp business community and law enforcement across Texas.
