SNAP beneficiaries expressed outrage on social media over the government shutdown affecting food stamp benefits starting Nov. 1, with some threatening to ransack stores.

Two federal judges on Friday said the Trump administration must tap into contingency funds to make SNAP payments during the government shutdown.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — more commonly known as SNAP, or food stamps — is a key benefits program that serves more than 40 million people across the country. Now, the shutdown is threatening to suspend benefits, raising concerns over where millions of people who rely on the program will turn to for food.

Sen. John Fetterman was exasperated with his colleagues Thursday, as the Senate heads home in the stalemate’s fifth week and millions of Americans are due to lose federal food assistance this weekend.

If Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are disrupted, analysts say it could mean more pressure on the already shrinking number of small independent supermarkets.

The Los Angeles Police Department, which serves the heart of the Greater Los Angeles region, of which Barstow is a part, told ABC News it has no plans to pursue increased police presence around grocery stores ahead of Nov. 1. (Barstow is not under LAPD jurisdiction.)

The government shutdown has caused payments to not be sent out for the month of November, causing millions of Americans to not have the food benefits they rely on.

An iconic Chicago deli is stepping in to help those losing SNAP benefits this week amid the government shutdown. Manny's Deli will be offering free meals starting on Monday. Deli owners said they want to " keep our community fed and safe or this first week."
