Authorities say an odor that prompted a voluntary evacuation of about 100 homes in suburban Philadelphia is due to a "volatile organic compound" coming from the sump pumps in the basements.
The smell originated from an illegally hooked up sump pump. Concerned residents in Lancaster contacted News 4 on Wednesday complaining of a sewage smell in the main drag of the village.
