Forthcoming version of Chrome will display more warnings for unencrypted sites.
The browser will soon be dropping its lock icon, shown in the address bar to signify whether a website is secure or not, as part of a broader redesign move.
Google announced that the lock will be replaced by a new “tune” icon with the release of Chrome 117 in September to help users better understand what its actual purpose is.
If a page claims it’s secure, but Chrome spots issues with its implementation, the padlock will be marked with a red X. Clicking the icon in any case will bring up more info on the site.
