President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law transferring the capital and seat of the Rizal provincial government from Pasig City to Antipolo City. Duterte approved Republic Act 11475 on June 19.
Pasig City was among the towns included in Rizal when it was declared a province in 1901. In 1975, Pasig City was taken out of Rizal’s jurisdiction and became part of Metro Manila.
Although Pasig had ceased to become part of Rizal for more than four decades, it remained to be the capital of the province, according to Antipolo City Rep. Roberto Puno, principal author of the bill.
