ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The okapi family at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park has just welcomed a new addition. A male calf was born to first-time parents, Mahameli and Mpangi.

The okapi is classified as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. There are an estimated 10,000 to 50,000 okapis left in the wild.
