BALTIMORE — In the midst of his best season yet, the league has taken note of David Peterson. The left-hander became the fourth player and first starting pitcher selected to represent the Mets at the MLB All-Star Game next week at Truist Park in Atlanta, the team announced Thursday. It will be the first trip to the Midsummer Classic for Peterson.

Unsurprisingly, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is headed to the All-Star Game for the fifth time in seven years. Although Alonso is familiar with the All-Star process, this year’s trip to Atlanta will be slightly different. Alonso confirmed that he turned down an opportunity to participate in his sixth Home Run Derby.

New York Mets pitcher David Peterson has been added to the NL roster for the All-Star Game, replacing San Francisco left-hander Robbie Ray.
