Gong were one of the great cult psychedelic rock bands. Founded in the late 1960s by Daevid Allen (who died in 2015), they charted an brilliantly eccentric course on the fringes of rock’s mainstream.

Later, when the single was released in the USA (Jan. 1972) it was re-titled ‘Bang A Gong (Get It On)’ to distinguish it from another song with the same name by a band called Chase.
