Google is changing its mobile operating system’s branding by adopting “Android” with a capital A instead of all lowercase letters. The company is also updating the bug droid logo to a 3D avatar.

Google has revealed a new Android logo, which includes a new look for the Android mascot and the logo, the changes have been made ahead of the next major version of Android OS, which is Android 14.

While the app icons have followed the flat design trend, the Android robot has been transformed into a 3D representation. This logo redesign appears to indicate more than just a grammatical shift.

The last big change in the Android logo was in 2019, which was also the year the naming convention changed. Google used to give new Android versions names after desserts (Marshmallow, Oreo, Nougat).

Still, that’s a pretty minor concern — Transparent Screen seems like an app best used occasionally, when you absolutely have to fire off a message while on the move.

The 2019 update is when Google dropped the tradition of giving each Android release a dessert name, and sadly, Google won't bring back that playful aspect of the OS. There is a new robot, though.
