Former health minister Andrew Gwynne, suspended by Labour after his racist and sexist comments were exposed earlier this year, was facing appeals from party officials to stay on.

Around a hundred people arrived at Jubilee Square, just metres from the Gorton and Denton MP’s office, chanting ‘Andrew Gwynne, in the bin’, urging him to step down.

The building opened on Oct. 20, 1911. The construction and furnishing of Gwynne Institute cost $45,000 (well over $1 million today).

Andrew Gwynne, who was also suspended from the Labour Party earlier this month, is listed among the allegations under investigation by Daniel Greenberg, the standards commissioner.
