Texas has had trouble getting a state of 30 million residents online for years — even before the pandemic put a spotlight on poor broadband development.

The fires are burning northeast of Amarillo, a city of over 200,000 people. A map created on Feb. 29, 2024, shows where wildfires are raging across the Texas Panhandle and parts of Oklahoma.
