Denver police closed roads near the state Capitol on Thursday night during a demonstration against President Donald Trump’s policies, including mass deportations and Medicaid cuts.

Residents included Oklahoma City in a nationwide anti-Trump protest effort, which honors the death of civil rights activist John Lewis.

One protestor, Jim Clark, said he's been attending rallies since the beginning of the year. He said he attended Thursday in response to the defunding of the USAID and the resulting food waste, and funding cuts to public media like NPR. Clark said he protests for the sake of his children and grandchildren.

Organizers will call for passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and other voting rights legislation.

Events are planned for throughout Los Angeles County Thursday for “Good Trouble Lives On,” billed by organizers as a “national day of nonviolent action” on the fifth anniversary of the death of Rep. John Lewis,
