A 32-year-old man is going to prison after pleading guilty to beating a sick sea lion on a California beach, officials said.

The Huntington Beach nonprofit says 45% of the 8,000 wildlife it cares for annually comes from OC Animal Care's service area.

Nearly two dozen whales have died in the San Francisco Bay Area in recent months, according to animal rescue groups.
