Republican lawmakers in Michigan are blaming the Canadian government for the state’s poor air quality, claiming that authorities north of the border have failed to control the wildfires pouring smoke into skies across the continent.

For many, it has started to feel like the bad air quality in Michigan from the Canadian wildfires is becoming the new summer normal. Now, state leaders and politicians are saying the recent batch of smoke is the last straw.

Air quality alerts remain in effect from Minnesota to the Northeast due to smoke from hundreds of wildfires in Canada. In the West, wildfires in California continue to rage.
