The new Herbie Husker is inspired by the original version — embracing the Cornhusker tradition and Nebraska's agricultural background — and celebrates the 50th year of the logo and mascot.

He preferred to be known as a "Husker" instead of a Cornhusker, because he believed that image would "sell better" outside of Nebraska. But by rejecting his agricultural roots, he lost his identity.
