Shobana is currently pursuing her doctorate on Natyashastra from Tamil University. “It is not an honorary doctorate, I'm working on it for the past 10 years,” she adds. A seeker forever.

Shobana does not suffer fools gladly. And nor should she; the 200-odd film veteran has worked on projects ranging from Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada to English.

Shobana has acted in over 200 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, English, and Kannada. She also appeared in Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD and runs a Bharatanatyam school, offering free classes.

There is also one of well-known Bharatanatyam dancer Chitra Visweswaran, who is Shobana’s guru. “And that’s my mother,” she says, pointing towards another attractive photograph.
