ONE of the biggest venues on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is set to make a comeback - after a two-year absence.

The university's McEwan hall and Bristo Square are being redeveloped in a £33m project which means the entranceway had to be removed. McEwan hall was built and presented to the University in 1897.

The 1,000-seat McEwan Hall was used as a festival venue for the first time in 2010. But the University of Edinburgh, which owns the building, is carrying out repair work on the hall's organ.

Underbelly returns to the stunningly refurbished McEwan Hall for Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018 with Nina Conti and Foil Arms and Hog as first shows announced for the refreshed space.

Edinburgh is set to host the first major Fortnite event in the UK with players competing for £100,000 prize money.

Now Edinburgh University's McEwan Hall gates are to be relocated, not next to their previous location but at a new site outside the Pollok Halls of Residence across the city.
