Italy has secured what could prove to be a pivotal opening victory in the Women’s European Championship by beating Belgium 1-0.

Following a cagey start, the game opened up and it was Italy that struck first in the closing minutes. After Belgium fail to convert from their small spell of dominance, Italy race down the other end of the pitch and Caruso curls in a thumping strike just inside the area.
