IPSWICH, MASS. (WHDH) - A horse is recovering after he fell through a barn floor in Ipswich Monday, prompting a lengthy rescue effort involving local emergency responders and animal experts.

The Ipswich Police Department, Ipswich Animal Control and Ipswich Fire Department responded and said they found a 31-year-old horse on its back in the ditch with its legs in the air.

A spokesperson for the Ipswich Fire Department said crews first responded near 9:30 a.m. The spokesperson said the horse was nine-years-old and weighed 1,200 pounds.
