The deceased officer was identified as Capt. Devin “Curly” Boutte, age 34. St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau said Capt. Boutte had been with the department for many years.

Sheriff Brett Stassi confirmed that Warren Mitchell III, 25, of St. Gabriel, has been booked on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Captain Devin “Curly” Boutte.

Captain Boutte, 34, was found stabbed to death at a home on Legion Drive in St. Gabriel on the morning of Sunday, July 6. He had served with the St. Gabriel Police Department for many years.
