The heyday of the front porch lasted from the early 1880s to the middle 1920s. Families added front porches to their homes or built new houses with elaborate porches.

The front porch on this house, built more than 80 years ago during The Great Depression, had been updated at least once in the past, in the 1980s. The cedar porch floor was in OK shape.

In the early 1900s, houses were built with a front porch so a family could sit and talk to neighbors walking by. Today, restored houses and new houses are again featuring front porches.
