T he Fantastic Four have long deserved better from Hollywood. Marvel Comics’s dysfunctional super-family proved that comic-book characters could be relatable, but so far, each a
Bachrach, Joseph Quinn and Julia Garner also star in Matt Shakman’s superhero adventure, in which the team must save Earth from a “Devourer of Worlds.”
First Steps not only has to introduce audiences to a new roster of heroes, villains, and scene-stealing side characters, but it also needs to reset the narrative surrounding the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The movie’s mid- and post-credits scenes cheekily show us where the fab four have been, while also hinting at where they’ll be headed next.
Fantastic Four (1967 - 1968). The Fantastic Four arrived on television for the first time in 1967. Produced by animation giant Hanna-Barbera, the series only ran 20 episodes.
And the resulting show - which lasted 20 episodes - was just as campy and, well, cartoonish as one imagines a Hanna-Barbera produced "Fantastic Four" series would be. 1978 TV series
Shakman's film, which is set for worldwide release on Friday, stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, also known as the stretchy Mr Fantastic; Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm-Richards, the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn as the fiery Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the rock-skinned powerhouse Ben Grimm, also called The Thing.
The Marvel film stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Julia Garner and hits theaters July 25.
