Hundreds of people took to social media last week to pay homage to David Houseknecht, 69, a longtime bartender at the Irish Pub in Atlantic City.

Larry Mullen Jr., drummer for the Irish rock band U2, gave $100,000, but most Irish donors gave small amounts. Many also posted comments on the relief fund website. “It’s only fair,” said one.
