Cannabis cafes offering food, coffee and live entertainment will soon become reality in California, after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill legalizing the establishments popularized in Amsterdam.
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Monday that will allow 'Amsterdam-style' cannabis cafes starting next year, the bill's author said.
Cannabis cafes have been a long-standing association with Amsterdam's famous "coffee shops," acting as a tourist attraction as well as offering people a place to consume cannabis in public.
The bill cleared the Assembly on a 63-5 vote. The “cannabis cafe” model has been compared to Amsterdam, where the consumption of cannabis has been legal at coffee shops since the 1970s.
