That may seem like a lot of mailbox stores for a town of 5,000 people, but Blaine isn’t just any small town: it sits right on the 49th parallel that divides the United States and Canada.

BLAINE, Wash. - Washington State Patrol says they have closed the commercial lanes of SR 543 at the Blaine border crossing into Canada Saturday because of the "Freedom Convoy" protests in Canada.

Mayor Mary Lou Steward of Blaine hopes the event catches on and visitors from both sides of the border return to patronizing businesses in the town of 6,232 that depends heavily on tourism.
