Max Holloway may have played the role of the villain to the Louisiana faithful Saturday night when he denied native son Dustin Poirier the BMF championship belt at UFC 318, but on Sunday morning he was any other guy looking for some New Orleans comfort food.

Max Holloway did exactly what he promise — he spoiled the retirement fight of Dustin Poirier in front of Poirier’s home crowd in New Orleans as he retained the BMF title in the main event of UFC 318 on Saturday night.

Poirier (30-10 MMA, 22-9 UFC) didn't get his fairytale ending after losing a unanimous decision to Max Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) for the BMF title in Saturday's headliner at Smoothie King Center. However, that doesn't mean that Poirier isn't grateful for the experience of having his retirement fight in his home state of Louisiana.
