"Superman" remains up, up and away at the box office. The superhero reboot retained its crown as three new releases, "Smurfs," "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and Ari Aster's "Eddington," failed to pack a punch in theaters.

James Gunn's DC reboot aims for $60 million second weekend as Ari Aster's Eddington debuts outside the top five.

Warner Bros./DC Studios' "Superman" is easily holding on to the No. 1 spot at the box office with an industry estimated $57 million second weekend, flying high over Sony's revival of the 90s slasher series "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and Paramount's animated dud "The Smurfs.

Horowitz asked Gunn about how he was able to break the news to Cavill, who portrayed Superman in several films, including 2013’s “Man of Steel” and 2016’s “Batman v Superman,” after he publicly announced in October 2022 that he would be returning as Superman.

“That was really unfortunate,” Gunn continued. “So Peter and I [thought] the right thing to do was to sit down with [Cavill] and talk to him. And we sat down and we talked to him. He was an absolute gentleman, a great guy about it. He said, ‘The only thing I ask is that I’m able to reveal it myself as opposed to it coming from you guys.'”
