A winter storm system moved through the Pittsburgh area on Monday, dumping several inches of snow throughout the region in the process. Heavy snow began to blanket parts of the area early on Monday and continued to accumulate throughout the afternoon and the evening.

The NWS is warning SoCal residents to be prepared as a life-threatening, destructive, widespread windstorm is expected to sweep through much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties Tuesday through Wednesday.

A northwesterly wind flow on Tuesday and Wednesday may bring some lake-effect snow showers to the area at times. Make sure to check the latest forecast before you head out the door. This blast of arctic air will continue through the week and high temperatures will struggle to get to the freezing mark this week and through the weekend.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- When major storms are forecast, the first thought of many is to head out to the store to get whatever is necessary to prepare to hunker down. Many shoppers across the Pittsburgh area raced to their local stores to prepare for what may come.

Public works crews are gearing up for a busy night heading into Monday morning when snow is expected to move into the area.
