Several New Year's Eve drone shows have been canceled across the country after a Florida boy was sent to the ICU when a malfunctioning drone hit his chest. NBC News' Adrienne Broaddus has more on the incident and cancellations.

A Holiday Drone Show in Orlando was canceled after some drones fell into the crowd during Saturday's performance, seriously injuring a 7-year-old boy. Two performances were scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 21. The second was canceled "due to technical difficulties," the City of Orlando posted on Facebook.

Adriana Edgerton and Jessica Lumedge told CBS News the injured person was their 7-year-old son, Alezander, and said he needed emergency heart surgery. They told CBS affiliate WKMG that their son was hit in the stomach by one of the drones.

ORLANDO, Fla. ( WFLA) — A young boy required open heart surgery after multiple drones at a holiday show in Orlando, Florida, unexpectedly fell from the sky. The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating.

Bystander video showed more than 200 drones forming a red and green holiday display when several of the bladed devices began falling from the sky, crashing on land and in the water.

The 7-year-old required heart surgery after the drone, apparently involved in a midair collision, struck his chest, mother Adriana Edgerton told NBC affiliate WESH of Orlando.

A drone company had some of its operations put on hold amid an investigation into an incident in which a boy was injured during a Florida holiday show.
