DETROIT – In 2024 Detroit recorded its fewest number of homicides since 1965 with 203 victims. Detroit was a much bigger city back then. The city had a million more residents. But the latest homicide numbers show real progress for a city still working to shed its reputation of being violent.

Preliminary year-end statistics show that homicides in Detroit have dropped to levels not seen since before the mid-1960s.

A Detroit couple was sentenced Friday after pleading no contest that their three dogs escaped and fatally mauled a 35-year-old father who was walking home from a bus stop. A judge ordered Roy Goodman to serve 2 1/2 to 15 years in prison,

Roy Goodman was sentenced to between 30 months and 15 years in prison after he was convicted on one count of dangerous animal causing death. His wife, Trevina Goodman was sentenced to three years probation,

Both Roy Goodman and Trevina Goodman pleaded guilty to a single count of dangerous animal causing death after Harold Phillips was attacked by three dogs owned by the couple.
