Millions of Americans this week downloaded the Chinese social networking app RedNote, also known as Xiaohongshu, as a possible U.S. prohibition of TikTok loomed.

Xiaohongshu, the Instagram-style app that took off among younger Chinese during the pandemic, is on track to double profits to more than $1 billion in 2024 ahead of a potential IPO.

Xiaohongshu did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press. Alexis Garman is a 21-year-old TikTok user in Oklahoma with nearly 20,000 followers.
