U.S. Vice President JD Vance has extended an invitation to Pope Leo XIV to visit the United States during a meeting at the Vatican. Vance offered Leo a letter from U.S.

Usha Vance isn't necessarily Donald Trump's biggest fan, and husband J.D.'s similarities to the president aren't going over well with her, it seems.

But Vance is in a unique position compared with recent vice presidents, said Democratic strategist Ashley Etienne, who was communications director to Harris during much of her first year as vice president. Vance’s boss is term-limited by the Constitution, and that gives him a different mandate, she said.

Second Lady Usha Vance joined her husband, Vice President J.D. Vance, at the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Robert Francis Provost, on Sunday in Vatican City. J.D. is Catholic and the second lady is a practicing Hindu.

President Donald Trump is expected to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin at around 10 a.m. ET on Monday, as the White House continues its push for an end to Moscow's 3-year-old invasion of Ukraine after last week's peace talks in Istanbul, Turkey.

JD Vance is attending Pope Leo's inaugural mass. The trip could set the tone for the Trump administration's relationship with the new pope.
