The National Hurricane Center continued to track Tropical Storm Fernand in the central Atlantic on Monday, but the Gulf remained very quiet as the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season approaches. There were no storms expected to develop in the Gulf in at least the next seven days, according to hurricane center forecasts.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storm Fernand and three tropical waves in the Atlantic basin, which consists of the northern Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf. Tropical wave 1: A eastern Atlantic tropical wave is near 32W from 16N southward, moving westward at around 17 to 23 mph.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking five tropical disturbances in the Atlantic, according to the 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, advisory from the National Hurricane Center. Invest 90L near the Leeward Islands is "very likely" to become a tropical depression or tropical storm over the weekend. If so, it would become Fernand.
