With the "okay" hand sign deemed to have taken on associations with white supremacists, Nebraska officials moved to give Herbie Husker a "We're No. 1" gesture.

Nebraska had previously redesigned Herbie Husker in 2003, shifting to the logo and mascot design that remained unchanged until 2021, when Nebraska tweaked Herbie’s hand gesture.
