This year, the Church recounts Mary’s visitation of Elizabeth. Today’s Gospel tells us that Mary “set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town in Judah” (1:39).

Elizabeth knows that, though she cannot see God, God is there with her—in Mary’s womb. This appears to leave Elizabeth puzzled, or even in disbelief, that God himself has come to her home.
