The MTA Board on Wednesday approved a four-year financial plan that includes $249 million to hire 500 police officers, including to help address safety issues at Long Island Rail Road stations.

MTA Police is vastly expanding its ranks, with 500 additional officers being hired and deployed throughout the five boroughs, bringing the agency’s total police force to more than 1,200 officers.
