Edan Alexander, the last known living American hostage in Gaza, was released by Hamas on Monday, ending an 18-month ordeal that began with the militant group’s October 7 attack.

The Israeli military confirmed that Alexander was turned over to the Red Cross on Monday evening and was being brought to Israeli forces.

The agreement to release Edan Alexander came after talks between Washington and Hamas that did not include Israel.
