Located in Hermann Park and close to Houston's Museum District, the zoo is about 4 miles south of downtown. The zoo does not have its own parking lot; free parking is available in Hermann Park.

Lisa Peterson, who has led San Diego Zoo Safari Park since 2017, is leaving to take the president/CEO job at the Houston Zoo in June.
