Report: Elon Musk Kills Tesla's Cheap Car Project, Again, Denies It
Musk, the man behind most of Tesla's stillborn plans, went on X, his social media platform, and immediately claimed the Reuters report wasn't true: Of course, Musk hasn't specified why the Reuters report isn't true.
Tesla posted teaser videos on social media suggesting a major announcement on Oct. 7, with analysts speculating about the launch of a lower-cost Model Y.
The product tease comes after another positive development for the electric vehicle maker. On Oct. 2, Tesla reported that EV deliveries in the three months through September had jumped by 7% over the same period last year and beat Wall Street expectations. The stock initially gained about 2% on the news before falling to trade down roughly 0.5%.
Tesla teased an October 7 event, in which investors and analysts anticipate a more affordable model to sustain sales momentum.
Electric-vehicle maker Tesla unveiled a cheaper Model Y SUV at $39,990 and Model 3 sedan at $36,990 following record third-quarter deliveries and expiring tax credits.
