"We are honored to have Coach K join the NBA family and share his vast experience and expertise with the league and our teams," NBA President of League Operations Byron Spruell said in a statement.

Krzyzewski is a larger than life presence around Durham, and it’s understandable that he’d want to take a break of some sort with his family. Coach K does watch every game, admittedly.

Coach K, his wife of 53 years Mickie, and his three daughters, whom he calls his starting five, have grown into an extended and still very close family. “We love Duke,” Krzyzewski said.

Coach K has deep ties to the Hurley family. He coached Bobby Hurley to back-to-back NCAA championships in the early 1990s and has served as a mentor and sounding board for Dan in recent years.
