Meaning of Arabic word 'Islam' - Islam is a verbal noun originating from the triliteral root s-l-m which forms a large class of words mostly relating to concepts of wholeness, safeness and peace.

In classical Arabic, zaytoon refers to the olive tree and the plural of a single olive – a zaytoona. But in colloquial Arabic, zaytoon can reference one olive along with zaytoona.
