India's T20I openers, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, experienced contrasting fortunes in their last two series against South Africa and England. As calls to replace Sanju Samson grow louder, here's why India should move beyond old-school thinking.

With 51 runs in five innings against England in the five-match T20 series, Indian opener Sanju Samson is facing the heat over his lack of form, with former teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and ex-captain Kris Srikkanth criticising the wicketkeeper batter for the similar manner of his dismissals.

Sanju Samson scored just 16 runs off seven balls in the fifth T20I in Mumbai as it was a poor series for him against England. Samson, however, didn't take the field after India piled on 247 runs on the board on a very good surface riding on Abhishek Sharma's 37-ball century.
