ATLANTA — Weather forecasters from NOAA's National Weather Service updated the seasonal forecast for the Atlantic Hurricane Season on Thursday. The new forecast, released August, includes 13 to 18 named storms, with five to nine of the storms becoming hurricanes and two to five becoming major hurricanes.

But the season is still expected to be above normal. An average Atlantic hurricane season generates 14 named storms. NOAA predicted 13 to 18 named storms, with four already behind us but the busiest months of hurricane season ahead. On Aug. 7, NOAA released an updated forecast for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

For the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, NOAA is forecasting 13 to 18 total named storms with winds of 39 mph or greater -- with five to nine of those storms predicted to become hurricanes with winds of 74 mph or greater.
